Bike Preparation and Tuning Services
Lea has always prepared his own racebikes and his skill on the track is certainly matched by his engine tuning and bike preparation. Lea's knowledge of the classic TZ Yamaha is second to no one, but he has demonstrated his skills on all kinds of two stroke engines.
Recent Success
* Suzuki T200
Lea has been developing a 1967 T200 Suzuki for Team Spencer Racing over the past three years, and has turned it from an also-ran, into a 40+ bhp unbeatable Championship winner. Rider Terry Brocklehurst has taken it to two consecutive 200cc CRMC championship wins (2004-5), capped off with a win in the prestigious 'Race of the Year' at Snetterton.

At Cadwell Park, Lea decided to take the Spencer Suzuki out for a test ride. He entered the 250/350cc twins race on it (so that Brocklehurst didn't miss his 200cc race) and won the race outright! Top riders on 250 and 350cc bikes just couldn't keep up with Gourlay on the Spencer T200, and he not only won, but also smashed the 250cc lap record! His race time meant that if he had entered the 250/350TZ Yamaha race on it, he'd have won that too!
Lea can be seen below, battling the 350cc Honda K4 twins for the lead:

* Suzuki T20
Adrian Baker's 1967 Suzuki T20 (www.t20suzuki.com) had a successful first year in 2003, but the engine was lacking in drive and had a very narrow power band. Lea rebuilt the crankshaft, upped the carb size to 34mm, tuned the barrels and helped with the overall set-up. This gave the bike far more power AND flexibility and this enabled Baker to a second place in the 250cc twins championship in 2004, followed by a first place in 2005.

* CRMC success
In 2005, Lea won 5 Championships riding a variety of machines at the CRMC, and his tuning and bike preparation took two other riders to titles! Lea also supplied crank rebuilding, tuning and servicing to many other CRMC members who took 'Gourlay prepared' bikes to the chequered flag on many occasions. No wonder Lea was awarded the CRMC 'Racer of the Year' prize in 2005.
* Other Projects
Lea now works full time as a developer of race and road machines - both two and four stroke. As well as his more normal TZ Yamaha preparation, Lea has developed some seriously quick Suzuki TR250 barrels for competing in the Manx GP, has developed other T20 and T200 tuning configurations, as well as being very busy with crank rebuilding, frame modifying, welding, and other specialist engineering work.
